90-30 Digital Input Modules

GE Fanuc 90-30 PLC Input Modules

In the GE Fanuc 90-30 series PLC, input modules are the components that receive signals from the field and pass them on to the PLC. In other words, they take information from devices like buttons, sensors, and limit switches, and report it to the PLC, saying "this is what’s happening right now." Without input modules, the PLC can't get any data from outside – it would be "blind."

How Many Types of Input Modules Are There?
There are different types of input modules for the GE Fanuc 90-30, and they can work with either AC or DC voltage. Some modules can even handle positive or negative logic inputs, allowing you to connect various types of devices. Here are some common types:

DC Input Modules: These modules accept signals from DC voltage sources like 12V or 24V. For example, you can connect buttons or proximity sensors. When current flows into the input, the PLC sees it as "1", and when no current flows, it’s "0."

AC Input Modules: Suitable for devices using AC voltage. If you want to control a machine powered by AC, these modules will do the job.

Combined (AC/DC) Modules: These modules can work with both AC and DC signals. They can detect both types of signals and pass them on to the PLC.

How Many Inputs Are There?
GE Fanuc 90-30 input modules typically come with 8, 16, or 32 inputs. For example, if you have a 16-input module, you can receive 16 different signals from the field and send them to the PLC. These inputs are usually connected to a single common terminal, meaning they are all powered from the same "common" point.

Control with LED Indicators:
These modules have LED indicators to show the status of each input. There’s one LED for each input, and if the LED is on, that input is active. The LEDs make it easy to see which inputs are working, and this can be a lifesaver when troubleshooting.

Field Wiring and Installation:
Wiring up the input modules is pretty straightforward. You connect the signals from the field to the input terminals, and you connect the power supply to the common terminal of the module. If you’re installing the module, GE Fanuc 90-30 has a modular design, meaning you can install the input module in any slot you want.

How Much Current Does It Draw?
The amount of current an input module draws depends on how many inputs are active. Typically, each input draws a certain amount of current (like 7 mA). But if all inputs are active, power consumption will increase accordingly.

In short, GE Fanuc 90-30 input modules reliably and safely transfer signals from external devices to the PLC. The key thing to watch for in the field is to choose the correct voltage and logic type. If the wrong voltage or logic signal goes to the PLC, things can get messy. But with the LED indicators and robust design of these modules, you can quickly check and intervene in the field.
