Power inverters

Power inverters convert DC battery power into AC power to operate suitable electrical equipment in vehicles, motorhomes, boats and off-grid systems. The power inverters in this category serve a different purpose from variable frequency drives used to control motor speed.
Check that the 12 V, 24 V or 48 V DC input matches your battery system and that the AC output voltage and frequency suit your equipment. Choose between pure sine wave and modified sine wave output according to the load manufacturer's requirements. Distinguish continuous output power from short-term peak power; for motors and compressors, assess both the starting demand and how long the inverter can support it.
Runtime depends on usable battery capacity, load consumption and conversion losses. Check the manufacturer's requirements for DC cable size, fusing and ventilation. Battery charging, a solar panel input and automatic transfer during an outage are not included in every inverter; verify these functions and protective features for each model.
