Drives adjust motor speed, digital controllers handle measurement and control signals, and panels bring the selected power and control equipment together. For multi-pump installations, check support for cascade operation, duty rotation based on operating hours and standby control.

Do not select by kW alone: assess supply voltage, phase configuration, motor nameplate current and motor type together. The pressure transmitter measuring range and its 4–20 mA or 0–10 V output must match the controller’s analogue input. Mounting, panel ventilation, ambient temperature and enclosure protection also matter.

PID control, sleep/wake operation, dry-run detection and communication depend on the model. Support for these functions does not automatically eliminate the need for sensors or external protection. Acceleration/deceleration ramps and S-curve settings must suit the operating limits of the pump and pipework.

Appropriate speed control can deliver energy savings under variable demand; the result depends on the pump and system operating conditions. A conventional inverter does not automatically eliminate supply harmonics. Any need for a harmonic filter or a different drive solution requires separate assessment.
