Battery and battery charger
Batteries and battery chargers are selected for power supply and backup needs in UPS systems, emergency lighting, automation, vehicles and energy storage. This category covers battery groups, individual cells and suitable charging solutions.
Choosing a battery and charger
When choosing a battery, consider nominal voltage, capacity (Ah), continuous and short-duration discharge current, dimensions and terminal layout. Flooded, AGM and gel lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion chemistries including LiFePO4, NiCd and NiMH have different charging requirements. A battery suitable for engine starting may not suit extended backup operation.
For the charger, check the charging profile, system voltage, permitted charging current (A) and input supply. For lithium systems, check BMS compatibility, temperature limits and charge-stop requirements. Matching voltage labels alone do not establish compatibility. Ah indicates capacity, while A indicates charging current; select settings within the battery manufacturer's limits. When choosing cells, also check whether they are rechargeable.
