Choosing a gearbox

Check the reduction ratio, nominal and peak output torque, permitted input speed and radial/axial load limits together. For positioning, consider angular backlash (arcmin) and torsional stiffness; low backlash does not mean zero backlash. The flange, shaft diameter, shaft length and connection type must match the motor.

Motor power categories provide an initial shortlist; motors with the same kW rating may have different mounting dimensions. Include frequent reversals, acceleration, load inertia, duty cycle and operating conditions in the selection. Verify lubrication, maintenance and seal specifications in the documentation for the selected model.
