What should you check before choosing?

Consider operating voltage and load current, load type and utilization category, coil or control voltage, pole count and contact configuration, mounting dimensions and environmental and enclosure protection requirements together. A contactor's motor-load current rating may differ from its resistive-load rating. For circuit breakers and fuses, check breaking capacity and protection characteristics; for overload relays, choose an adjustment range that covers the motor's nameplate current. When selecting solid-state relays, check AC/DC load compatibility, control input and the manufacturer's specified cooling requirements.

Choose push buttons with the mechanism and NO/NC contact configuration required for starting, stopping or emergency stopping. Rotary cam switches change circuit connections between manually selected positions; they serve a different purpose from limit switches that detect mechanical movement.
