What is HMI (Panel)?

  HMI : It is an abbreviation formed by combining the initials of the English term "Human Machine Interface". Translated as "Human Machine Interface (HMI)" in the Turkish automation market, which is the correct definition. It is a user interface or dashboard that connects a person to a machine, system or device. Although the term can technically be applied to any display that allows a user to interact with a device, HMI is most commonly used in an industrial process context.
Human-Machine Interface, by definition, encompasses all the elements a person will touch, see, hear, or use to interact with a machine. When it comes to human interface technology, advances are fast.

   Although HMI is the most common term for this technology, it is sometimes referred to as Human Machine Interface (MMI), Operator Interface Terminal (OIT), Local Operator Interface (LOI), or Operator Terminal (OT). HMI and Graphical User Interface (GUI) are similar but not synonymous: GUIs are often used within HMIs for their visualization capabilities.

   The HMI, or Human Machine Interface, allows system operators to “interface” with the system they control. It provides a visual overview of the automatic system's status and direct control of its operation. An HMI's graphic displays can be programmed to display important status and control information to the operator. Images, icons, sounds and colors can all be used by HMIs to visually represent different operating conditions. Many HMIs use touchscreen technology for user interaction with the items displayed on the screen. Now 'What is HMI?' answered.

   Who Uses the HMI? Where to use ?

   HMI technology is used by almost all industrial organizations and a wide variety of machine companies to interact with their machines and optimize their industrial processes.
HMIs communicate with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and input/output sensors to retrieve and display information for users to see. HMI screens can be used for a single function such as monitoring and monitoring or, depending on how they are implemented, to perform more complex operations such as shutting down machines or increasing production speed.

   HMIs are used to optimize an industrial process by digitizing and centralizing data for an audience. By leveraging the HMI, operators can view key information displayed on charts, graphs or digital dashboards, view and manage alarms, and connect to SCADA and MES systems through a single console.

   Previously, operators had to walk continuously to review mechanical progress and record it on a piece of paper or whiteboard. By allowing PLCs to transmit real-time information directly to an HMI display, HMI technology eliminates the need for these legacy applications, thereby reducing many costly problems caused by lack of information or human error.

   The effectiveness of HMI selection and design practices depends on a rigorous process that includes all technical, ergonomic and communication requirements. The impact of the human/machine interface is far more important than its core functionality. HMI components and systems are the key point of contact between the user and a machine or process.

   Dear friends, HMI and Panels do not mean much on their own. Maybe 95% of them work in combination with either one or more PLCs, sensors, drivers, or other information collecting or receiving systems. Embedded in many HMI editor programs, commonly used brands in the market are automatically found.
