What is IEC 60721?

Hi everybody,

IEC 60721 is a series of international standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). These standards classify environmental conditions for electrical and electronic products, equipment, and systems. The purpose of IEC 60721 is to provide a standardized method for specifying the environmental conditions to which products may be exposed during their transportation, storage, installation, and operation.

The standard is divided into several parts, which are further subdivided into classes. These classes describe various environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, and the presence of contaminants (e.g., dust, salt, chemicals). Manufacturers and designers can use these classifications to ensure their products meet the required performance levels in the specific environmental conditions they are expected to encounter.

By adhering to IEC 60721, manufacturers can improve the reliability and safety of their products, while also facilitating international trade by ensuring compatibility and compliance with a globally recognized standard.
