What is encoder?

Hi everyone,
A rotary encoder is a type of sensor that is used to measure the rotational movement of a motor or machine element. Rotary encoders consist of a rotating disk and a sensor. As the disk rotates with the movement of the motor or machine element, the sensor detects markers on the disk and converts them into electrical signals. These signals are then converted into a numerical value at the output of the encoder, which indicates the number of rotations and the speed of the motor or machine element.
Rotary encoders are commonly used in systems that require high precision and accuracy, such as robotic systems for motion control and position sensing, automatic production machines for position control, and material handling systems for speed and position control. They are available in different types, such as optical, mechanical, pneumatic, and conductive, to suit different measurement and control tasks.
What diffrent encoder model
There are several different types of encoders available, each designed to suit specific measurement and control tasks. Some of the common types of encoders include:
Optical encoders: These encoders use a light source and a detector to detect the movement of a rotating disk. They are reliable and accurate, and can operate at high speeds.
Mechanical encoders: These encoders use a rotating disk with teeth or slits, and a sensor that detects the movement of the teeth or slits. They are durable and suitable for harsh environments.
Pneumatic encoders: These encoders use a rotating disk with openings, and a sensor that detects the movement of the air flow through the openings. They are resistant to dust and water, and can operate in extreme temperatures.
Conductive encoders: These encoders use a rotating disk with conductive and non-conductive segments, and a sensor that detects the movement of the segments. They are suitable for high precision applications, but can be affected by noise and electromagnetic interference.
Absolute encoders: These encoders measure the absolute position of a rotating or linear movement, and output a unique numerical value for each position.
Incremental encoders: These encoders measure the incremental change in position of a rotating or linear movement, and output a numerical value that indicates the number of rotations or the distance traveled.
Multiturn encoders: These encoders measure the rotational movement of a motor or machine element over multiple turns, and output a numerical value that indicates the number of rotations and the position within a turn.
Linear encoders: These encoders measure the linear movement of a motor or machine element, and output a numerical value that indicates the position along a linear scale.
Resolver : A resolver is a type of sensor that is used to measure the rotational movement of a motor or machine element. Resolvers consist of a rotating disk and a stator with windings.
