Shihlin Non-Braked Servo Motor and Drive Sets

This page contains Shihlin servo motor and drive sets without a holding brake. Non-braked servo motors are generally suitable for horizontal axes, feeding, cutting, indexing and other motion applications where the motor shaft does not need to be mechanically held when power is removed.

When selecting a servo system, motor power alone is not sufficient. Required torque, maximum speed, inertia ratio, movement profile, supply voltage and control method should all be considered together.

Braking and regenerative energy: High-inertia loads or applications requiring rapid deceleration can return regenerative energy to the servo drive DC bus. Depending on the servo-drive model and application, an external braking resistor or braking unit may be required. Braking connections and resistor selection should always follow the manual for the specific servo drive.

CN1 control connector: CN1 is used for machine-control signals such as servo ON, alarm reset, limit inputs, position commands and programmable digital inputs and outputs.

CN2 encoder connection: Motor position and speed feedback are transferred to the servo drive through the encoder interface. Accurate encoder feedback allows the drive to continuously monitor the actual motor-shaft position and speed.

CN3 communication: Applicable Shihlin servo drives support RS232 / RS485 communication. A PC connection can be used for parameter setup, status monitoring and test functions. RS485 is generally more suitable for longer distances and multi-drive communication.

CN4 USB connection: On supported servo-drive models, the USB interface can be used for PC communication, parameter configuration and diagnostic access.

Wiring: R/S/T input power cables and U/V/W motor cables should be routed separately from encoder, communication and low-level control wiring. The source information recommends approximately 30 cm separation between power and signal cables where practical.

For longer encoder connections, suitable twisted-pair and shielded cable should be used. Maximum cable length and conductor size should be checked in the manual for the specific motor and drive combination.

Electrical safety: Dangerous DC bus voltage may remain inside the servo drive after the incoming power has been switched off. Do not touch the power terminals until the charge indicator has turned off and the manufacturer's specified discharge time has elapsed.

Status display: The operator panel can display information such as motor speed, servo status and alarm data. Displayed values can be selected using the panel keys and the related drive parameters.
