AF-6 Vfd

The GE AF-6 is a series of variable frequency drives (VFDs) designed for industrial applications that require precise control of electric motors. VFDs, also known as adjustable frequency drives, AC drives, or inverters, are electronic devices that control the speed and torque of an electric motor by varying the frequency and voltage of the power supplied to the motor.
The GE AF-6 VFD series offers a broad range of power and voltage ratings, from 180W to 1.4MW, and from 230V to 690V, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. The series is designed for both constant and variable torque applications, with built-in DC chokes that help increase the lifetime of the capacitors and conformal coating available for harsh environments.
The GE AF-6 VFD series is also designed for low operating costs, with up to 98% efficiency, an Automatic Energy Optimizer (AEO) that potentially saves up to 5% energy compared to standard drives, and no periodic maintenance/replacement costs. The series is suitable for heavy-duty constant torque applications like conveyors, lifting gear, and mixers, as well as light-duty variable torque applications like pumps and fans.
In addition, the GE AF-6 VFD series has built-in features like a class A2 RFI filter, a DC link reactor, high immunity to fluctuating supply voltage, and intelligent heat management, which make it a reliable and efficient solution for industrial motor control.
For variable torque applications, the AF-6 drive series is suitable for light-duty applications that involve pumps and fans. Pumps and fans have a significant share of all power consumed by industrial applications, with consumption levels approximately at 40%. By using speed control, it's possible to generate a cubic reduction in energy requirements. This significant potential for savings makes all applications with variable torque ideal candidates for energy savings.
The built-in class A2 RFI filter is ready to use and avoids faults due to incorrect installation or wrong filter selection. The drive is suitable for use with motor cables of up to 300m, depending on the power rating of the drive. The built-in DC link reactor reduces installation costs and fulfills EN 61000-3-2/3-12. It also has a true power factor of 0.9 and low harmonic emission with THDi < 48%.
The AF-6 drive series is designed for reliable operation in harsh environments, with protection against environmental pollution, aggressive gases, moisture, and dust. It reduces the probability of failure resulting in less downtime and increases the lifetime of the drive. The AF-6 drive series also has intelligent heat management, where cooling fans are easily cleaned without touching the electronics. The 100% cooling air via segregated rear heat-sink protects the electronic against aggressive environments, and it has a temperature-controlled fan.
The AF-6 drive series has high immunity to fluctuating supply voltage (+/- 10%), efficient overvoltage protection, and is fully short-circuit- and earth-leakage proof. It has a 100kA prospective short-circuit current capability.
The AF-6 drive series has several benefits:
Designed for general purpose applications: The drive series is suitable for a wide range of applications, both constant and variable torque.
One family: With just one drive series, you can run an entire production line, which simplifies system design, configuration, and maintenance.
Broad range: The drive series has a broad range, covering power from 180W to 1.4 MW, and voltage from 230 V to 690 V.
Designed for lifetime: The built-in DC chokes help increase the lifetime of the capacitors, and conformal coating is available.
Low operating costs: The drive series has up to 98% efficiency, which leads to low energy consumption. The automatic Energy Optimizer (AEO) can potentially save up to 5% energy compared to standard drives. The drive series also has a low cost of ownership since there are no periodic maintenance/replacement costs. Energy savings of up to 40% are possible depending on the application.
Constant torque applications: The drive series is suitable for heavy-duty constant torque applications like conveyors, lifting gear, and mixers, where the load does not change significantly with the speed. The power required by such systems is proportional to the torque required and to the speed of the motor. Energy savings can be achieved by reducing the speed at constant load or by using speed drives to regulate the motor's output voltage depending on load.
