Before buying, compare the motor nameplate data, current measurement/setting range, supply voltage, number of phases, trip delay or trip class, and output and reset arrangements. For models using external current transformers, also verify the CT ratio and compatibility. Phase-loss, voltage and thermistor protection are not available on every model.

Protection arrangement: A protection relay's trip output operates a suitable contactor or circuit breaker to disconnect the circuit. An overload relay alone does not replace a short-circuit interrupting device. For temperature monitoring, consider used thermistor relays; for phase monitoring, browse used phase monitoring relays.

Condition and testing: Each description should disclose the condition of terminals, adjustment controls and display, along with known faults. Test statements should explain the checks performed on measurement, thresholds and the trip output.
