What is multimeter?

A multimeter is a versatile instrument commonly used in electrical and electronics work to measure various electrical quantities. It can measure basic electrical properties such as resistance (ohms), voltage (volts), and current (amperes). Advanced models may also feature additional functions like temperature measurement, frequency counting, capacitance measurement, and transistor testing.

Multimeters are available in two main types: analog and digital (DMM - Digital Multimeter). Analog multimeters display the measurement with a needle moving over a scale, whereas digital multimeters show the measurement numerically on a screen. Digital multimeters typically offer higher accuracy, automatic range selection, and sometimes data logging capabilities.

Using a multimeter effectively is a fundamental skill for accurately measuring and safely testing electrical systems. Electricians, electronics hobbyists, technicians, and engineers often use multimeters in their work.
