what is RoHS

Hi everyone,
RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. It is a European Union (EU) directive that restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) placed on the market in the EU. The RoHS directive restricts the use of six substances, including lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in EEE.

The RoHS directive aims to reduce the environmental and health risks associated with the use of hazardous substances in EEE. It requires manufacturers to eliminate or significantly reduce the use of hazardous substances in their products, thus reducing their impact on the environment and human health. The directive applies to all electrical and electronic equipment placed on the EU market, including large household appliances, small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment, consumer equipment, lighting equipment, power tools, toys, and sports equipment.

RoHS was first adopted by the EU in 2003 and became law in 2006. Since then, many other countries around the world have also adopted similar regulations. The RoHS directive has been instrumental in promoting the use of safer and more sustainable materials in the production of electrical and electronic equipment, contributing to a more environmentally friendly and healthy world.
