Functions:
The IC697HSC700 High Speed Counter (HSC) module processes fast pulse signals up to 200 kHz (800 kHz for Type E in A Quad B mode). It is designed to handle rapid input signals, process counting data, and control outputs without depending on the PLC CPU. The HSC is often used in industrial applications such as:
Turbine flowmeter operations
Velocity measurement
Material handling systems
Motion control systems
Process control applications
Counter Types:
The HSC module supports five counter types (A, B, C, D, and E), with specific functionality for each type:
Type A: Four identical, independent unidirectional 16-bit counters.
Type B: Two identical 32-bit bi-directional counters with options like Up/Down, Pulse/Direction, or A Quad B mode.
Type C: One differential 32-bit bi-directional counter with home cycle functionality.
Type D: Four 32-bit bi-directional counters that support multiple counting modes (e.g., A Quad B x1, x2, x4).
Type E: Two 16-bit counters with fast response outputs, designed primarily for down-counting with an ability to handle A Quad B jitter.
Input and Output:
Inputs: Supports 12 inputs, with selectable voltage ranges (5 V TTL, 10-30 VDC non-TTL, or 400 mV for Magnetic Pickup).
Outputs: Four positive logic outputs, optically isolated. Maximum supply voltage is 30 VDC, with a maximum current of 1.0 A per output at 60°C (using a 10-30 VDC supply).
Module Configuration:
The HSC module is configured using MS-DOS or Windows-based programming software. It allows for features like:
Selectable input filters for high-frequency or low-frequency signal filtering.
Preload inputs to set accumulator values.
Strobe registers to capture the current accumulator value at specific input triggers.
Oscillator output for generating a reference clock signal from 15 Hz to 1 MHz.
Key Specifications:
Module operating voltage: 5 VDC from the backplane.
Input thresholds: For TTL inputs, Von = 1.4V and Voff = 0.8V; for Non-TTL, Von = 8.0V and Voff = 5.0V.
Input impedance: 6000 ohms.
Maximum count rate: 200 kHz (A-D types), 800 kHz in A Quad B mode (Type E).
Output current: Up to 1.0 A per output (using 10-30 VDC supply).
This module's flexibility and high-speed counting capabilities make it ideal for precise monitoring and control in various industrial automation processes.
