The IC697CPX782 is a 96 MHz, 32-bit Central Processing Unit (CPU) with 1 Mbyte of battery-backed RAM and 256K of flash memory. It provides advanced control and real-time processing for industrial automation systems, supporting complex applications with floating-point calculations and multiple communication interfaces.

Functions

The IC697CPX782 is a single-slot PLC CPU designed to control machines, processes, and material handling systems in real-time. It communicates with I/O and option modules over the rack-mounted backplane using the VME C.1 Standard.

Supported option modules include LAN Interface, Bus Controller for IC660/IC661 I/O, Programmable Coprocessor, Alphanumeric Display Coprocessor, and all IC697 discrete and analog I/O modules.


Memory and Expansion


    1 Mbyte battery-backed RAM stores programs and configuration data.
    An additional 256K flash memory is available for storing user data (optional).
    Firmware is stored in flash memory, allowing for easy firmware upgrades without the need to replace EPROMs.

Installation and Operation

    Installation: The CPU is installed in Slot 1 of Rack 0. Proper installation, as detailed in the relevant manuals, ensures safe and reliable operation.
    Operation: The module can be controlled using a three-position RUN/STOP switch or remotely through programming software. Status indicators on the CPU include seven LEDs that display the operating mode and serial port activity.
    Memory Protection: Program and configuration data are protected by a keyswitch or password.

Communication and Serial Ports

The IC697CPX782 features three independent serial ports (RS-232 and RS-485). The serial ports can be used for communication with programming computers or other serial devices. Protocols supported include SNP (Slave) and Break-Free SNP for Ports 1 and 2.


Cooling and Operating Environment

    Forced air cooling is required for proper operation in higher ambient temperatures. Fan assemblies such as IC697ACC721/724 can be mounted directly on the rack for effective cooling.
