IC693TCM303 Temperature Control Modules (TCM)

Overview: The IC693TCM303 Temperature Control Module provides temperature control for up to eight channels. The two TCM models (IC693TCM302 and IC693TCM303) are identical except for temperature range and resolution ratings (see comparison table below). The modules offer the following features:

    Can operate in either open-loop or closed-loop mode.
    Each channel has a thermocouple input and a relay output.
    Supports RTD input.
    12V common-mode voltage capability.
    Open and reverse thermocouple detection and reporting.
    Out-of-tolerance temperature detection and reporting.

Connections:

Field devices such as thermocouples, relays, RTD, and external power for output relays are connected to the module using a pair of plug-in connectors that come with the module. These connectors have captive screw terminals to simplify field wiring connections. Signal names for each terminal are labeled on the module’s front cover.

LED Indicators:

    P (External Power): This green LED indicates that the module is receiving power. If the LED is off, it may indicate that the TCM’s internal fuse is open.
    R (Run): This green LED is normally on. If there is an internal module fault, this LED will alternately flash with the red F (Fault) LED.
    F (Fault): This red LED is off during normal operation. It flashes during module startup and goes out when the TCM completes its internal startup routine. If a fault occurs, this LED alternates with the R LED.
    S (Short): This red LED lights up if a short circuit occurs on one of the output circuits.
    1 – 8 (Output Status): These green LEDs indicate the status of each output channel. Each LED corresponds to an output channel and turns on/off during output regulation. The percentage of time the LED is on versus off represents the PWM period of that output.

Internal Fuse:

The internal fuse of the TCM is a 2 Amp, 125V subminiature type (Littlefuse Microfuse, Catalog Number 273 002 or equivalent). If the P (External Power) LED does not light, the internal fuse may be open.

Warning: Replace the fuse only with the correct size and type. Using the wrong fuse can result in harm to personnel or damage to equipment.

Automatic Data Transfers Between TCM and PLC:

The PLC CPU controls the TCM by automatically passing commands on each PLC sweep. These commands are contained in %Q bits and %AQ words, allowing the CPU to control functions such as Enable/Disable Output, Auto/Manual Mode, Autotuning, Setpoint Values, and Alarm Limits.

In return, the TCM sends status information to the PLC CPU through %I bits and %AI words during each PLC sweep. Information sent includes Alarm Status, Output Short Circuit Status, Current Temperature, PWM Period, and TCM Error Code.

IC693TCM303 offers an extended temperature range compared to IC693TCM302, making it suitable for applications requiring higher temperature measurement capabilities.
