IC693TCM302 Temperature Control Module (TCM)

The IC693TCM302 Temperature Control Module (TCM) is designed to provide precise temperature control for up to eight channels in industrial applications. It features both thermocouple and RTD input capabilities and can operate in either open-loop or closed-loop modes. The TCM module also detects and reports out-of-tolerance temperatures and other faults, making it a reliable choice for process control that involves temperature regulation.

Key Features:

Open loop and closed loop operation for each channel.
Thermocouple and RTD inputs, supporting a wide range of temperature sensing.
    12V common mode voltage capability.
Automatic detection and reporting of open or reversed thermocouples and out-of-tolerance conditions.
Eight relay outputs, one for each temperature input channel.

Connections:

Field devices such as thermocouples, relays, RTDs, and external power for output relays are connected via two plug-in connectors with captive screw terminals. Each terminal is clearly labeled on the front cover of the module for ease of installation. For example, Channel 8 connections are labeled 8+ and 8- for input and output connections, respectively.
LED Indicators:

P (External Power): A green LED that stays ON when the module is receiving power. If OFF, it may indicate an open fuse.
R (Run): A green LED that flashes with the Fault (F) LED during an internal fault.
F (Fault): A red LED that stays OFF during normal operation but flashes during startup or when an internal fault occurs.
S (Short): A red LED that lights up when a short circuit is detected on one of the output channels.
1 – 8 (Output Status): These green LEDs correspond to each of the output channels and indicate the status of each output by flashing based on the PWM control period.

Internal Fuse:

The IC693TCM302 includes a 2 Amp, 125V subminiature fuse that protects the module. If the P (External Power) LED does not light, it may be due to an open fuse. To replace the fuse, follow these steps:

Turn off the power to the PLC.
Remove the TCM module and gently release the front cover.
Use small needle-nose pliers to remove and replace the fuse.

Automatic Data Transfers:

The TCM automatically exchanges data with the PLC CPU during each PLC sweep, allowing seamless communication between the TCM and the rest of the system. Key commands are passed through %Q bits and %AQ words, while status and measurement data such as temperature, error codes, and PWM information are sent back to the PLC through %I bits and %AI words.
Comparison of TCM302 and TCM303 Modules:
Temperature range, J and L Thermocouples    0 – 450°C    0 – 750°C
Temperature range, K Thermocouples    0 – 600°C    0 – 1050°C
Resolution    12 bits / 0.2°C    12 bits / 0.5°C

The TCM303 offers an extended temperature range compared to the TCM302, making it suitable for higher temperature applications.

This module is ideal for applications requiring reliable temperature control and reporting, whether in manufacturing, material processing, or any system where temperature regulation is crucial.
