Gemo AR2-G1-24VDC-14D-TR – 14 Digital Input / 10 PNP Transistor Output I/O Expansion Module

Gemo AR2-G1-24VDC-14D-TR is a DIN-rail mounted I/O expansion module for the Gemo AR2 PLC / Smart Relay family. It is designed to increase the number of field inputs and outputs available to a compatible AR2 controller.

This version operates from an 18…32 VDC supply and provides 14 digital inputs, 10 PNP transistor outputs and one PTC temperature sensor input. There are no analog inputs on the 14D-TR version.

Important: The AR2-G1 is not a standalone PLC. It must be connected to a compatible Gemo AR2 CPU. It is intended for use with AR2-A or AR2-P control systems.

Compatible Gemo AR2 controllers

The AR2-G1-24VDC-14D-TR is designed for use with the following AR2 controller families:

• Gemo AR2-A-14D

• Gemo AR2-A-12D2A

• Gemo AR2-P series

The user program is executed by the main AR2 CPU. The AR2-G1 simply extends the physical I/O available to that controller, allowing additional switches, sensors, actuators and other field devices to be incorporated into the same control system.

RS-485 connection to the AR2 controller

The AR2-G1 communicates with the main AR2 controller through an RS-485 communication interface.

A twisted and shielded 2-core, 24 AWG cable is recommended for the RS-485 connection. Wiring should be made A ↔ A and B ↔ B. Depending on cable length and installation conditions, RS-485 line termination may also be required.

Digital inputs and PTC temperature measurement

The module provides 14 optically isolated digital inputs for industrial 24 VDC field signals. Input filtering helps prevent unwanted state changes caused by short electrical disturbances.

A dedicated PTC sensor input is also available for temperature monitoring. Suitable two-wire PTC sensors can therefore be integrated into the AR2 control system without occupying the standard digital input channels.

PNP transistor outputs

The -TR version uses transistor outputs rather than relay contacts. It provides 10 PNP transistor outputs rated up to 32 VDC / 0.3 A.

For applications requiring relay contacts rather than transistor outputs, the appropriate relay-output AR2-G1 version should be selected.

No analog inputs on the 14D-TR version

The AR2-G1-24VDC-14D-TR does not contain analog inputs. If analog measurement is required, an AR2-G1 variant with the 12D2A configuration should be considered. Those versions combine digital inputs with 0-10 V analog channels.

This distinction is important when selecting an AR2-G1 module: 14D versions are intended for applications requiring the maximum number of digital inputs, while 12D2A versions provide analog input capability.

AR2 system programming

The AR2-G1 itself is an expansion module rather than a programmable CPU. Ladder logic, timers, counters and other control functions are executed by the connected AR2 controller.

The complete AR2 system can be programmed using GEMO Ladder Editor. Depending on the selected CPU and system configuration, functions such as counters, timers and other PLC logic functions are available through the main controller.

Applications requiring PID control or servo and stepper motion control must also be evaluated according to the capabilities of the main PLC / CPU. These are not independent functions of the AR2-G1 expansion module.

Installation in industrial control panels

The AR2-G1 may be installed in automation panels containing equipment such as variable frequency drives and frequency inverters. Correct grounding, cable routing and shielding practices should be followed when the module is installed close to electrically noisy equipment.

Where necessary, appropriate EMC filtering and separation between power and signal wiring should be provided.

Important safety notice

Installation, wiring and commissioning of the Gemo AR2-G1 expansion module and the associated AR2 PLC / Smart Relay system should be carried out only by qualified technical personnel.

Disconnect the power supply before wiring or removing the module. Use suitable protective devices, correctly rated conductors and the wiring methods specified for the AR2 system. Do not operate damaged equipment or modify the internal electronics of the module.
