Gemo AR2-G1-230VAC-14D – 14 Digital Input / 10 Relay Output I/O Expansion Module

Gemo AR2-G1-230VAC-14D is a DIN-rail mounted I/O expansion module for the Gemo AR2 PLC / Smart Relay family. It is designed to increase the number of digital field inputs and relay outputs available to an existing AR2 control system.

This version operates from a 100…240 VAC, 50/60 Hz supply and provides 14 digital inputs, 10 relay outputs and one PTC temperature sensor input. The AR2-G1-230VAC-14D does not include analog inputs.

Important: The AR2-G1 cannot be used as a standalone PLC. It must operate with a compatible Gemo AR2-A or Gemo AR2-P CPU.

AR2-G1 I/O addressing

When connected to the AR2 system, the additional channels provided by this module are used as:

• Digital inputs: DIn15…DIn28

• PTC temperature input: PTC2

• Digital outputs: DQ11…DQ20

The 14D version has no AnIn3 or AnIn4 analog channels. Applications requiring analog measurement should use an appropriate 12D2A version instead.

What is the AR2-G1 used for?

The AR2-G1 is used when the physical I/O available on the main AR2 controller is not sufficient. The Ladder program and control logic remain inside the main AR2 CPU, while the expansion module provides additional terminals for sensors, switches, contactors, relays and other field devices.

It should therefore be considered an I/O extension module, not an independent PLC controller.

14D configuration

The 14D designation identifies a version with 14 digital input channels and no analog inputs. This configuration is intended for applications where maximum digital input capacity is more important than analog measurement.

For applications requiring 0-10 V analog signals, an AR2-G1 model with the 12D2A configuration should be selected.

Relay outputs

The AR2-G1-230VAC-14D provides 10 mechanical relay outputs, addressed as DQ11…DQ20 in the AR2 system.

Each relay contact is rated up to 250 VAC / 2 A with resistive loads. Suitable suppression components should be used when switching inductive loads such as contactor coils, solenoid valves or similar devices.

Digital input characteristics

• OFF level: 0…2 VDC

• ON level: 10…32 VDC

• Maximum input voltage: 32 VDC

• Input common: Negative common, suitable for PNP / Totem Pole field signals

• Digital input filter time: Minimum 8 ms

RS-485 expansion connection

The AR2-G1 communicates with the main AR2 controller through an RS-485 communication interface.

A twisted and shielded two-core cable is recommended for the communication line. Wiring should be made A ↔ A and B ↔ B. Signal cables should be separated from motor and high-current wiring whenever possible.

PTC temperature sensor input

The expansion module provides an additional 2-wire PTC sensor input, identified as PTC2 in the AR2 system.

This allows temperature information to be added to the main PLC program without using one of the standard digital input channels.

Programming, PID and HMI functions

The AR2-G1 does not contain the main programmable CPU. Ladder logic, timers, counters, PID functions and other control operations are executed by the connected AR2-A or AR2-P controller.

For this reason, PID control and servo / stepper motion control should be evaluated according to the capabilities of the main AR2 CPU, not the AR2-G1 expansion module.

Installation in industrial control panels

The module can be installed in panels containing equipment such as variable frequency drives and frequency inverters.

Correct grounding, shielding and separation between signal wiring and power wiring are important in electrically noisy environments. Suitable EMC filtering should be used where required.
