IC697VHD001

I/O Products - Single-Slot VMEbus Hard Disk Module (IC697VHD001)

The IC697VHD001 is a single-slot VMEbus hard disk module designed to hold one floppy disk and one hard drive. It’s a passive module that operates on the standard VMEbus P1 and P2 backplane connectors and fits into a 6U VMEbus form factor.

Key Features:

10 GB hard drive capacity for ample storage.
Standard VMEbus 6U form factor that takes up only one slot.
Low power consumption, making it energy-efficient.
Uses a flexible cable interconnect to eliminate clutter on the front panel by connecting directly to a single-board computer (SBC).

This module is specifically designed to interface with VMEbus-compatible PC/AT SBC boards, which already have the necessary floppy and IDE controllers.

Compatible SBC:

    IC697VSC096 SBC

Technical Specifications:

    Physical Dimensions: 160mm x 233.25mm x 20.32mm (fits one slot).
User Connectors: 40-pin IDE connector for hard drive.
    Average Access Time: 14ms
Power Requirements: +5V, 2.5A max during startup, typically <1.0A.
Temperature: Operates between 5°C to 50°C, with storage temperature between -25°C to 60°C.
MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures): 119,093 hours (MIL STD 217F standard).

Connections and Jumpers:

J1 Header: This header connects the hard disk drive (HDD) to the single-board computer (SBC) via ribbon cable, allowing for easy connection with minimal clutter.

E1 Jumper (Master/Slave Select): Configures the hard disk drive to operate in either Master or Slave mode. By default, the HDD is set to Master (no jumpers installed).

E6 and E7 Jumpers: These jumpers route the HDD signals to the P2 backplane connector. When installed, the signals are directed through the P2 connector. If not installed, the signals are sent directly to the J1 header.

E9 Jumper (PDIAG Signal Routing): This routes the diagnostic signals between two connected IC697VHD001 modules, one acting as a Master and the other as a Slave. Make sure jumper E1 is configured correctly when using this jumper.

Cable Management:

The module is designed with cable cutouts for easy routing of cables from the floppy and hard disk drives to the SBC, reducing clutter on the front panel.

P2 Access Cable Configuration: This cable allows the module to connect to the backplane without disturbing front panel cabling. It ensures a tidy setup for connections to the SBC.

Installation Process:

Ensure the SBC configuration is set up for P2 access of HDD signals.
Install jumper shunts on E6 and E7.
Install the SBC and Disk Module into the desired slots in the VMEbus chassis.
From the back of the chassis, connect the P2 access cable to the shrouded P2 backplane connectors.
Once connected, power on the system.

Caution: Ensure proper alignment when installing the P2 access cable. GE Fanuc recommends using shrouded P2 backplane connectors for a secure fit.
