Shihlin SS2 is an industrial variable frequency drive manufactured by Shihlin Electric & Engineering Corporation. The SS2 series is designed for speed and torque control of AC motors in machinery, automation and general industrial applications.

The SS2 supports advanced vector control, flux vector control and conventional V/F control. These control methods allow the inverter to be adapted to different motor and load characteristics.

Motor Auto Tuning: The Auto Tuning function identifies important motor parameters and helps configure the drive for the connected motor. Correct motor data and tuning are especially important where stable low-speed torque and dynamic response are required.

Low-speed torque performance: The SS2 can provide high starting torque at low output frequencies when correctly matched and configured for the motor. For applications requiring increased starting torque, see also VFD torque boost.

Motor protection and stall prevention: The drive includes protection functions for abnormal operating conditions such as excessive current, phase problems, output short circuits and motor stall. General information about inverter alarms is available on our VFD fault codes page.

RS485 communication: SS2 drives can be integrated into industrial control systems using RS485 communication. Communication parameters, wiring and terminal information should be configured according to the SS2 user manual.

Soft PWM and energy-saving functions: The SS2 provides motor-control functions intended to improve operating characteristics, reduce unnecessary motor losses and adapt inverter output to the application. The actual benefit depends on the motor, load and parameter configuration.

Wide output-frequency range: The SS2 provides a broad adjustable output-frequency range for applications requiring operation above standard motor base frequency. Maximum permissible motor speed must always be determined from the motor and mechanical system specifications, not from inverter output frequency alone.

Installation: The compact SS2 design is suitable for industrial control panels and allows multiple drives to be installed efficiently. Correct clearances, cooling, grounding and wiring practices specified in the manual should always be followed.
