Gemo AR2-G1-24VDC-14D – 14 Digital Input / 10 Relay Output I/O Expansion Module

Gemo AR2-G1-24VDC-14D is a DIN-rail I/O expansion module for the Gemo AR2 PLC / Smart Relay family. It is used when additional digital inputs and relay outputs are required in an existing AR2 control system.

This version operates from an 18…32 VDC supply and provides 14 digital inputs, 10 relay outputs and one PTC temperature sensor input. The AR2-G1-24VDC-14D does not include analog inputs.

Important: The AR2-G1 cannot operate as a standalone PLC. It must be used together with a compatible Gemo AR2-A or Gemo AR2-P controller.

What is the AR2-G1-24VDC-14D used for?

The AR2-G1 is not a second PLC or an independent controller. Its purpose is to extend the physical input and output capacity of the main Gemo AR2 CPU.

The Ladder program and control logic remain in the connected AR2 controller, while the AR2-G1 adds 14 additional digital input channels and 10 relay outputs for switches, sensors, contactors, relays and other field devices.

This makes the module useful when an existing AR2 installation needs more field I/O without replacing the main PLC / Smart Relay.

14D version and analog inputs

The AR2-G1-24VDC-14D has no analog input channels. The 14D configuration is intended for applications where a larger number of digital inputs is preferred.

If analog measurement is required, the AR2-G1-24VDC-12D2A version should be considered instead. That model combines digital inputs with 0-10 V analog input channels.

Relay output version

This model uses relay outputs. The ten relay outputs are suitable for switching loads within the specified contact rating of 250 VAC / 2 A for resistive loads.

The relay-output AR2-G1 should not be confused with the AR2-G1-24VDC-14D-TR version, which uses transistor outputs instead of relay contacts.

Digital input characteristics

• OFF level: 0…2 VDC

• ON level: 10…32 VDC

• Maximum input voltage: 32 VDC

• Input common: Negative common, suitable for PNP / Totem Pole signals

• Digital input filter time: Minimum 8 ms

PTC temperature sensor input

The module includes a dedicated PTC temperature sensor input. A suitable two-wire PTC sensor can therefore be integrated into the AR2 system without using one of the standard digital input channels.

RS-485 connection

The AR2-G1 communicates with the main AR2 controller through an RS-485 communication interface.

For RS-485 wiring, a twisted and shielded two-core cable should be used. Signal wiring should be routed separately from motor, contactor and other high-current power cables whenever possible.

Programming and control functions

The AR2-G1 itself does not contain the main programmable CPU. Ladder logic, timers, counters, PID functions and other automation logic are executed by the connected AR2 controller.

The complete AR2 system can be programmed using GEMO Ladder Editor. Program development, simulation and transfer are therefore handled through the main AR2 PLC / Smart Relay rather than independently through the expansion module.

HMI connection

An operator panel is used as part of the complete AR2 control system rather than as a standalone function of the AR2-G1 module. Compatible display solutions can be found under HMI for Gemo PLC.

Installation in industrial control panels

The AR2-G1 can be installed in automation panels containing equipment such as variable frequency drives and frequency inverters.

Correct grounding, shielding and separation of signal and power wiring are important when the module is installed near electrically noisy equipment. Where required, appropriate EMC filtering should be used.

Important safety notice

Installation, wiring and commissioning of the Gemo AR2-G1 expansion module and the associated AR2 PLC / Smart Relay system should be carried out only by qualified technical personnel.
