Product families, software and firmware compatibility

PLC-5, SLC 500, MicroLogix, Micro800, CompactLogix and ControlLogix are different controller families. Programming environments, expansion arrangements and communication features vary by model. For example, Micro800 uses Connected Components Workbench, while the Logix platform uses software such as Studio 5000 Logix Designer, depending on the model and revision. Do not assume that a program for one family can be downloaded directly to another.

Before purchasing, check the complete catalog number, Series designation, firmware revision and software version used for the existing project. Assess the PLC, its digital I/O modules, power supply and HMI terminal as a complete system. A communication port alone does not establish support for the required protocol or device combination.

Test scope and equipment condition

Read any listing information about the scope of power-up, communication, program download and input/output tests. Applying power or seeing status LEDs illuminated does not verify every function. Testing of the CPU and each accompanying module may cover different functions. Faulty equipment is sold with its faults stated in the description. Check the listing for missing parts and accessories as well.
