ACS 550 Manuals

Hello, dear technical folks,

Let me introduce you to ABB's ACS550 standard drives. These drives are designed to simplify the buying, installation, configuration, and usage processes, significantly saving time. They are readily available through ABB channel partners, which is why they are referred to as "standard." These drives offer common user and process interfaces, fieldbuses, common software tools for sizing, commissioning, maintenance, and common spare parts.

Application Areas
ABB standard drives are versatile and can be used across various industries. Typical applications include pumps, fans, and constant torque requirements such as conveyors. ABB standard drives are perfect for scenarios that demand simplicity in installation, commissioning, and usage, without the need for customization or special product engineering.

Electromagnetic Compatibility
The EMC product standard (EN 61800-3 + Amendment A11(2000)) encompasses specific EMC requirements for drives within the EU. The latest revision of the 61800-3 (2004) standard is now applicable, with full compliance required by October 1, 2007. EMC standards like EN 55011, or EN 61000-6-3/4, apply to industrial and household equipment and systems, including drive components. Drives that meet EN 61800-3 requirements are always compatible with the corresponding categories in EN 55011 and EN 61000-6-3/4, although the reverse may not always be true. These standards do not specify cable lengths or require a motor as a load, and the emission limits are comparable according to the EMC standard...

FlashDrop Tool
ACS550 drives feature an interface for the FlashDrop tool. FlashDrop is a compact tool designed for quick and easy selection and setting of parameters on unpowered drives. It allows users to hide each parameter/group from the drive’s display, safeguarding the drive and connected machinery. For more details on the FlashDrop tool, please refer to page 10.

Relay Output Extension Option Module
This plug-in option provides three additional relay outputs. They can be utilized for pump and fan control or various supervisory functions. All relays can be programmed to turn on/off using the assistant control panel’s clock, or alternatively, a fieldbus can control any external components in the system.

Encoder Feedback Option Module
Standard drives can accommodate an encoder module. Utilizing an encoder for speed feedback is a straightforward method to enhance motor control across numerous applications.

Plug-in Fieldbus Module
The plug-in fieldbus options ensure connectivity to major automation systems. A single twisted pair can replace large amounts of conventional cabling, thus reducing costs and enhancing system reliability. The ACS550 supports the following fieldbus options:

    DeviceNet
    LonWorks®
    PROFIBUS DP
    CANopen
    ControlNet
    CC-Link
    Modbus TCP
    EtherNet/IP
    PROFINET IO
    PowerLink
    EtherCAT

These fieldbus options facilitate easy integration into large automation systems, reducing cabling costs and improving system reliability. This ensures the ACS550 drives can be smoothly integrated across various areas of industrial automation.

In essence, ABB's ACS550 standard drives offer flexible and powerful solutions that are easy to install, configure, and use across a wide range of industries and applications. They are perfect for typical applications like pumps, fans, and applications requiring constant torque. Ideal for situations where simplicity and straightforward product engineering are prioritized, they are equipped with features like EMC compatibility, the FlashDrop tool, additional relay outputs, and an encoder feedback module, making them highly functional and adaptable.
