ACS 355 Fault Codes

Hi everyone,

ABB ACS355 Drive Fault and Alarm Indicators

Fault and alarm indicators in ABB ACS355 drives are designed to indicate abnormal conditions of the drive. A red LED indicates a fault, and an alarm or fault message on the control panel signifies that the drive is in an abnormal condition. Using the information provided in this section, most alarm and fault causes can be identified and corrected. If the issue is not resolved, contact an ABB representative.

Fault Codes

Fault codes are indicated in parentheses with a four-digit code number for field communication. For more information on field communication, refer to the "Field Communication Control with Embedded Field Communication" (page 301) and "Field Communication Control with Field Communication Adapter" (page 325) sections.

Fault Reset Methods

The drive can be reset by pressing a button on the basic control panel or via the (assistant control panel), through a digital input or field communication, or by turning off the supply voltage for a while. The source of the fault reset signal is selected with the 1604 FAULT RESET SEL parameter. After the fault is cleared, the motor can be restarted.

Fault History

When a fault is detected, it is stored in the fault history. The latest faults are stored with a timestamp. Parameters 0401 LAST FAULT, 0412 PREVIOUS FAULT 1, and 0413 PREVIOUS FAULT 2 store the latest faults. Parameters 0404…0409 show the operating data of the drive when the latest fault occurred. The assistant control panel provides additional information about the fault history. For more information, see the "Fault Logger Mode" section (page 101).

These features and functions are critical for the effective monitoring and management of ABB drives. If you encounter an issue with your drive, you can use this information to identify the problem and evaluate potential solutions. When technical support or more detailed assistance is needed, it is important to contact ABB's technical support.

Fault Codes, Causes, and Actions

Fault Code 0001: Overcurrent (2310)

The output current has exceeded the trigger level. Check the motor load. Check the acceleration time (2202 and 2205). Check the motor and motor cable (including phasing). Check the environmental conditions. If the ambient temperature of the installation site exceeds 40 °C, the load capacity decreases.

Fault Code 0002: DC Overvoltage (3210)

The intermediate circuit DC voltage is too high. The DC overvoltage trigger limit is 420 V for 200 V drives and 840 V for 400 V drives. Ensure that the overvoltage controller is on (parameter 2005 OVERVOLT CTRL). Check the input power line for static or transient overvoltage. Check the brake chopper and resistor (if used). DC overvoltage control should be disabled when a brake chopper and resistor are used. Check the deceleration time (2203, 2206).

Fault Code 0003: Device Overtemperature (4210)

The drive IGBT temperature is too high. The fault trigger limit is 135 °C. Check the environmental conditions. Check the airflow and fan operation. Compare the motor power with the drive power.

Fault Code 0004: Short Circuit (2340)

There is a short circuit in the motor cables or motor. Check the motor and motor cable.

Fault Code 0006: DC Undervoltage (3220)

The intermediate circuit DC voltage is insufficient due to a missing input power line phase, blown fuse, internal fault in the rectifier bridge, or very low input power. Ensure that the undervoltage controller is on (parameter 2006 UNDERVOLT CTRL). Check the input power source and fuses.

Fault Code 0007: AI1 Loss (8110)

The analog input AI1 signal has fallen below the limit defined by parameter 3021 AI1 FAULT LIMIT. Check the fault function parameter settings. Check the appropriate analog control signal levels. Check the connections.

Fault Code 0008: AI2 Loss (8110)

The analog input AI2 signal has fallen below the limit defined by parameter 3022 AI2 FAULT LIMIT. Check the fault function parameter settings. Check the appropriate analog control signal levels. Check the connections.

Fault Code 0009: Motor Overtemperature (4310)

The motor temperature is too high. Check the motor ratings, load, and cooling. Check the start-up data. Check the fault function parameters. The measured motor temperature has exceeded the fault limit defined by parameter 3504 FAULT LIMIT. Check the fault limit value. Ensure that the actual number of sensors matches the value defined by parameter 3501 SENSOR TYPE. Allow the motor to cool down. Ensure proper motor cooling: Check the cooling fan, clean the cooling surfaces, etc.
