The IC697PCM711 Programmable Coprocessor Module (PCM) is designed to enhance the functionality of GE Fanuc Series 90-70 Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). It acts as a coprocessor to the PLC CPU and provides additional computing capabilities, including real-time data processing, operator interface tasks, and communication functions.

IC697PCM711 Functions

The IC697PCM711 enhances the processing power of the PLC by performing functions such as real-time computations, data acquisition, data storage, and data communications. It communicates with the PLC CPU over the backplane, accessing both user and system data using MegaBasic language extensions. The PCM does not require support from the PLC CPU for its application programs. Multiple PCM modules can be used in a single IC697 PLC system.

Dual tasking allows the PCM to run MegaBasic programs while also functioning as a communications interface. The module’s status is shown by three green LEDs on the front of the unit, and it can be initialized through a pushbutton or from an external PCM development system.


Installation Instructions for IC697PCM711

    Ensure rack power is off before installing.
    Install expansion memory (if required).
    Connect the battery to one of the battery connectors on the module.
    Install the PCM module into the rack.
    Turn on power.

The top LED will blink during diagnostics and will remain on if diagnostics are successful.


IC697PCM711 Expansion Memory

The PCM can operate with or without an expansion memory daughter board. The base module contains up to 95 Kbytes of user memory, and expansion memory can extend this by an additional 64, 128, 256, or 512 Kbytes. The expansion memory is retained by the battery on the base board.


Programming and Configuration for IC697PCM711

The IC697PCM711 is programmed and configured using IC647 or IC640 computers or any IBM-compatible PC with PCM Development Software. The PCM connects to the programming device via the top port, typically operating at 19,200 bps. Configuration includes setting serial port parameters, defining the interface to the PLC CPU, and selecting task functions. Additionally, MegaBasic applications can be programmed.


Configuration Details

No DIP switches or jumpers are required for configuration. All configurations are done through the PCM Development Software, where the board settings can be customized. The module must be configured before it can be operated.


IC697PCM711 Status Indication and Controls

The three status LEDs indicate the module's condition:

    Top LED: Module condition.
    Bottom two LEDs: Configurable for various status indications.

A reset pushbutton is provided on the module:

    Holding the button for less than 5 seconds restarts the current application.
    Holding the button for more than 5 seconds restores the module to its factory default configuration (without clearing memory).
