IC697BEM721

The I/O Link Interface Module (IC697BEM721) is designed for high-speed communication between master and slave devices over a serial I/O link, typically for Fanuc CNC-compatible systems. Here's a breakdown of the key information about this module:

Master or Slave Mode: The module can function as either the master or slave in the I/O link system.
Single Slot Installation: It occupies one slot in the PLC rack.
High-Speed Communication: Operates at 1.5 MHz transmission rate over the RS-422/485 serial interface.
Status LEDs: There are three LEDs to indicate module status (OK), link activity (Active), and configuration status (Cfg).
Reset Button: A pushbutton is available for resetting the I/O link when needed.

The Fanuc I/O Link allows for high-speed data exchange between a master and up to 16 slave devices. The standard cable distance between devices is 10 meters, but using optional fiber optics, this can be extended to 100 meters. You can install up to four of these interface modules in an IC697 PLC, and they can operate on separate links or share the same link, depending on your application.

When configured as a master, this module can handle up to 1024 discrete inputs and 1024 outputs. In slave mode, it supports up to 64 inputs and 64 outputs.

Configuration and Operation:

Configuration: The I/O link is configured using MS-DOS programming software. The application software supplied with the module helps manage data transfers and diagnostic functions for the I/O link.
    LED Indicators:
Module OK: Indicates if the module is functioning properly.
Link Active: Shows communication activity on the I/O link.
Link Cfg: Shows whether the link configuration has been completed.

Installation:

The module can be installed in any slot (except slot 1, reserved for the CPU). Make sure the power is off when installing or removing the module. To install:

Insert the module into the card guide and slide it towards the connector.
Push it in firmly until the latches click.
    Ensure it is seated properly.

Wiring:

Two serial ports (RS-422/485) are provided for connection to the I/O link. When using the module in master mode, connect the cable from the first slave to the upper port. The lower port is unused. When in slave mode, connect the cable from the previous device to the upper port and the cable to the next slave to the lower port.

Caution:

Do not use cables with a +5V line (e.g., cable A03B-0807-K803) for direct connections between devices, as this could damage the equipment. The +5V output is only for powering fiber optic link modules.

This module is useful in CNC environments, enabling high-speed communication between multiple devices, and can be integrated into a variety of automation and control systems with ease.
