CMOS Expansion Memory - IC697MEM713/715/717/719

Expansion Memory is a key component designed to increase the memory capacity of CPU 771, CPU 772, or Programmable Coprocessor Module (PCM) in the GE Fanuc Series 90-70 Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The expansion memory modules are available in four configurations: 64 Kbytes, 128 Kbytes, 256 Kbytes, and 512 Kbytes.

Functions

This CMOS expansion memory comes in four versions: 64, 128, 256, and 512 Kbytes. It can be used to expand logic and data memory for the CPU 771 (IC697CPU771), CPU 772 (IC697CPU772), and the Programmable Coprocessor Module (IC697PCM711). The expansion memory installs as a daughterboard and resides in the same slot as the module it supports, supplementing the base board’s memory.

In case of power loss, the memory is retained by the battery on the base module. Logic program memory is continuously error-checked by the PLC CPU as a background task. The PCM performs error checks when power is cycled or during hard or soft resets.

Installation

Installation should follow the instructions provided in the Programmable Controller Installation Manual:

    Ensure power to the rack is off.
    Plug the 64-pin connector into the base board connector and engage the snaps.
    Place the module in the rack.
    Turn the power on.

CPU Installation:

    Clear memory using MS-DOS® or Windows® programming software by following the instructions in the Programming Software User’s Manual.

PCM Installation:

    For PCM, follow the instructions in the Programmable Coprocessor Module Support Software User’s Manual.

Batteries

The lithium battery (IC697ACC701) is used to maintain user memory and operate the calendar clock on the PLC CPU when power is removed. Install the new battery before removing the old one. Details of low battery indication can be found in the reference manuals.
