Functions
The IC697CPX772 is a single-slot PLC CPU that supports floating point calculations. It is programmed and configured using MS-DOS or Windows-based software, providing real-time control of machines, processes, and material handling systems. The CPU communicates with I/O and option modules via the VME C.1 Standard backplane.
Supported modules include LAN Interface modules, Programmable Coprocessor, Bus Controller for IC660/IC661 I/O, and all IC697 discrete and analog I/O modules.
Installation and Operation
The CPU is installed in Slot 1 of Rack 0.
Controlled by a three-position RUN/STOP switch or remotely via attached programming software.
The CPU status, serial port activity, and operation modes are indicated by seven LEDs located on the front of the module.
After verifying the program, the switch can be set to the desired operation mode: RUN WITH OUTPUTS ENABLED, RUN WITH OUTPUTS DISABLED, or STOP.
Memory and Expansion
512 Kbyte battery-backed RAM stores program and data.
An additional 256 Kbyte of non-volatile flash memory is available for user data storage.
The operating system is stored in flash memory, allowing for firmware updates without disassembling the module or replacing EPROMs.
Serial and Ethernet Communication
The IC697CPX772 has three independent serial ports. These ports are used to interface with a programming computer or other serial devices. Two ports are RS-485 compatible, and one is RS-232 compatible. For Ethernet TCP/IP communication, an Ethernet Interface module such as the IC697CMM741 or IC697CMM742 is required.
Cooling Requirements
The IC697CPX772 requires forced air cooling for operation in ambient temperatures above 50°C. Fan assemblies, such as IC697ACC721/724, can be mounted directly on the rack for effective cooling.
The IC697CPX772 is a high-performance, single-slot CPU designed for industrial automation applications requiring floating point calculations and real-time control. With 512 Kbyte RAM, extensive communication options, and flexible memory configurations, it offers robust and reliable control for a wide range of industrial systems.
