IC693CPU323
Ge Fanuc 90-30 PLC IC693CPU323 - Simple Guide for Electricians
Overview: The IC693CPU323 is an embedded CPU on a 10-slot baseplate. This means that the CPU is soldered onto the baseplate, and while it's not as flexible as a modular system, having 10 slots makes it ideal for applications that need more expansion.
Key Features:
Non-Replaceable CPU: The CPU is soldered directly to the baseplate, so if it fails, you’ll need to replace the whole baseplate, not just the CPU.
10-Slot Baseplate: Unlike other embedded CPUs, this model has 10 slots. You can use all of these slots for I/O or option modules.
Backup Battery: The memory backup battery is located in the power supply module. If the power supply is removed or the battery runs out, the memory circuits will be disconnected. Thankfully, a "super capacitor" is built in to hold enough charge to protect the memory during short power outages.
No Time-of-Day Clock: There’s no real-time clock in this model, so if you need to track time-based data, this might be a limitation.
Technical Details:
Processor Speed: Runs at 10 MHz, which is good for most basic applications.
Scan Rate: It scans at 0.6 milliseconds per 1K of logic (boolean contacts).
User Program Memory: Up to 12K bytes of memory, compared to 6K bytes in earlier versions.
Input/Output Points: Supports up to 320 input points and 320 output points (combined total of 320 points).
Internal Coils: Has 1024 bits for internal coils, and 256 bits for temporary output coils.
Analog Inputs/Outputs: Can handle 64 words of analog input and 32 words of analog output.
Timers/Counters: You get 340 timers and counters to work with.
Built-in Serial Port: Comes with 1 built-in serial port. It supports SNP and SNP-X slave protocols.
Communications: Supports Ethernet, Profibus, and other communication modules. It also allows multi-drop connections via LAN.
Things to Watch Out For:
No Battery-Backed Clock: There’s no battery-backed clock, so it might not be the best choice if you need to store time-based data.
Memory Storage: Uses RAM, but you can add EPROM or EEPROM for extra data security.
The IC693CPU323 is a solid choice if you’re working on projects that need more I/O capacity and expansion slots. While it doesn’t have advanced timekeeping or clock features, its large capacity and reliability make it great for larger tasks that don’t need a lot of real-time data.
