What is Wi-fi?

Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that allows computers, smartphones, or other devices to communicate with each other or connect to the internet without a physical wired connection. Wi-Fi is a trademarked phrase that stands for "Wireless Fidelity."

Wi-Fi works by using radio waves to transmit information between devices. This is done through a router, a device that receives the data from an internet connection and translates it into these radio signals. The devices that are Wi-Fi enabled can then receive these signals, allowing them to access the internet or communicate with each other on the network.

Wi-Fi networks can operate on different frequency bands, typically 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, and have different standards that dictate their speed, range, and other characteristics. These standards are set by the Wi-Fi Alliance, an organization that ensures the interoperability of Wi-Fi technology across different devices and brands.

Wi-Fi is used in various environments, from homes and offices to public places like coffee shops, hotels, and airports. It enables a wide range of activities, from basic web browsing and email checking to streaming video and playing online games. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Wi-Fi technology continues to evolve, with newer standards like Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E offering faster speeds, lower latency, and better performance in crowded environments.
